Alexander Dubovoy, piano; Pedro Dantas, percussion; Hans Bilger, double bass

"This newly-formed piano trio (Hans Bilger, Pedro Dantas, Alexander Dubovoy) aims to
explore the rich space between Brazilian music and experimental improvisation. Though
Brazilian music in Europe can often be viewed with a connotation of “smoothness”,
there is a deeper, more varied tradition drawing from a wide range of regional styles and
soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from innovators of Brazilian composition, notably
Egberto Gismonti, in both original compositions and intricate re-imaginings of existing
pieces, the trio aims to move fluidly between samba, free improvisation,
through-composed sections, and beyond.

Alexander Dubovoy Bio:
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Alexander
Dubovoy is a Berlin-based pianist, singer, and composer. He
graduated from Yale University in May 2016, where he wrote
an award-winning thesis on the history of jazz in the Soviet
Union. Since graduating, he has performed at storied
international venues, including the Cornelia Street Cafe in
NYC, Donau115 in Berlin, Rakuya Label in Tokyo, etc. His solo
album Portraits Drawn Without You has garnered over 8
million streams on Spotify. He currently works for
Groupmuse, a cooperative arts organization with a social
mission to ensure fair pay for musicians. His work has been
featured by the New York Times, NPR, the Boston Globe, and
YaleNews . https://www.alexanderdubovoy.com/

Pedro Dantas Bio:
A drummer since the age of 13, Pedro Dantas was captivated by Green Day's Basket
Case music video on MTV-where the drummer shows up all messed up, throws crazy
fast fills, and pours a ton of energy into the music. From that moment, drums and music became one and the same for him. After more than 20 years of playing mostly for fun with friends across different styles, he is now focused on organizing music sessions and performing live in Berlin. One of these sessions, Zumzum, is dedicated to Brazilian music, bringing in guests from around the world who share a passion for its rhythms. Another project, Kumpel Sessions, is a duo with a cellist, where they collaborate with musicians from various genres across the Berlin scene. Currently, he is working on his first EP, shaped from early morning sketches that evolve into songs shared with friends and collaborators.
His drumming is all about supporting the song and pushing emotions to the extreme.

Hans Bilger Bio:
Hans Bilger is a musician, sound engineer, and biologist
from Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Yale University in
2016, Bilger moved to Austin, Texas, where he became a
sought-after sideman and session bassist. His debut solo
album, Meridian, was released in 2019 by Good Child
Music. Bilger has been composer-in-residence for
Brooklyn-based dance company Cora Dance since 2017.
He is currently based in Berlin, where he continues to
perform in the jazz, folk, experimental, and Middle Eastern
music scenes. Bilger began his training as a sound
engineer and music producer at the Fred Plaut Recording
Studio at the Yale School of Music, assisting with
solo/chamber music, symphonic, and big band recordings.
In 2023, he and composer Eli Greenhoe launched Miniwagon, a music and media
production company. Bilger remains deeply fascinated by the natural world. He holds a
PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior from the University of Texas at Austin, and has
published scientific papers on musical structure in birdsong and the anatomy of the
avian voice box. He is currently a Visiting Scientist at Berlin’s Museum für Naturkunde –
Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Science. https://hansbilger.com/bio.html

Claire Cross - electric bass
Harry Cook - piano

In an intimate performance, Claire Cross (electric bass) and Harry Cook (piano) fuse their two distinctive voices to create a neoclassical, ambient, improvisatory work. The duo interweave the textures and timbres of the piano and electric bass, re-framing the possibilities of this unusual combination through immersive compositions.

Collaborating to compose folk-like pieces, they blend & create their own unique dialect - reflecting thematically on the complexities, challenges and joys of sharing musical & intimate relationships. Together through sound they explore unspoken dialogues.

They will perform pieces from their 2013 album Dialect, alongside new material developed during their 2025 Artistic Residency at the Arvo Pärt Centre.
